IP-rated heaters are a necessity if you want to safely heat outdoor spaces such as patios, terraces and gardens.
We know water and electricity don’t mix and IP ratings provide buyers with information on how protected an electrical product is against liquids, including water and solids, like dust.
When first introduced, the letters IP stood for ‘International Protection’ but, over time, the two letters have become linked to the term ‘Ingress Protection’.
In IP ratings, the letters are accompanied by two digits (e.g. IP 44). The first digit (which ranges from zero to six) measures how much protection an electrical product gives against particles such as dust. The higher the number the more protection the product affords. The second (which ranges from zero to eight) measures protection against liquids such as water.
When looking for IP-rated heaters, the first consideration should be where exactly are you planning to locate the heaters. If you plan to position them where they are open to the elements and are to be used all year round, then you will need a heater with a high IP rating. If you buying a heater for under a parasol, then a lower IP rating will suffice.

Additional benefits of IP- rated infrared heating
If you’re in the market for an IP-rated outdoor heater it is worth bearing in mind the additional benefits that infrared heaters have over other forms of outdoor heating;

Direct heat. Infrared heaters provide direct heat to warm up people and objects and not the air in-between. This means you are not wasting money heating up the outdoor air.

Instant. Another great boon is that infrared heating works just like the sunshine and gives instant warmth as soon as switched on.

Space-saving. Tansun's infrared heaters can be wall-mounted or even chain-hung from above. That means that they don’t take up valuable floor space in alfresco areas of pubs and restaurants, unlike traditional gas heaters.

All Tansun’s outdoor heaters are weatherproof and are rated IP55, with the exception of Eclipse, which is rated IP X4. Choose from any of the model below;
Rio. The Rio is a range of fully weatherproof infrared heaters that can be used in all seasons and which come with a safety guard fitted as standard. Choose from the compact 1.5kW Rio IP, the 1.5kW – 2KW Rio Grande Single or the3kW Rio Grande Double.
Bahama. The Bahama range has unique glare-reducing gold reflectors and specially designed low-glare lamps. The range includes a single 1.5kW and double 3kW.
Eclipse. The Tansun Eclipse range of zero-light ceramic infrared heaters was especially designed for no-glare heating. The range incorporates advanced ceramic heating technology which gives the heaters 35% more energy efficiency than lower-spec near-infrared products. Choose from the 1.5kW Eclipse Double, 2.25kW Eclipse Triple or 3kW Eclipse Quad.
Monaco & Monaco XL. Monaco are low-glare heaters perfectly designed to heat large areas. Suitable for both indoors and outdoors, the heaters have much less glare than is normally associated with powerful infrared heaters. Monaco heaters are available in single 1.5kW, double 3kW and triple 4.5kW versions whilst the XL models include 2.4kW single, 4.8kW double and 7.2kW triple.
Riviera Elite. This is an elegant free-standing weatherproof Infrared Heater constructed from robust aluminium. It can provide instantaneous warmth to everything within 35 square metres of the heater. The Riviera Elite’s versatility offers heating solutions especially useful in commercial restaurant settings. It is available in kilowatt configurations of 3kW, 4.5kW all the way up to 6kW.
Sorrento. The Sorrento is one of the most installed commercial infrared heaters, due to its exceptional build, easy installation and unrivalled aesthetics. Choose from the 1.5 to 2kW single, 3 to 4kW double or 4.5kW to 6kW triple.
